I had a day off from work yesterday, so Mike and I finally got a chance to go Christmas shopping for the kids. We drove to Burlington to Lowe's to get some wood and supplies so Mike can make a Christmas surprise for Eliza.I LOVE hardware stores, the smell of lumber, the paint chips and all the hardware are so fun to look at.They have some beautiful chandeliers and of course we spent some time looking at all the bathroom fixture dreaming of what would look good in our home.Then we headed off to the mall. It was really fun. We felt like we were on a vacation as we strolled around looking in different stores. It has been close to a year since we have been to any mall. We always shop at wall mart in Keokuk and don't have the time to run to Burlington to shop. So we had a great day. We couldn't turn our heads without spotting another treasure that one of the kids would enjoy."Wouldn't David love that-That looks like Something Samuel would like--That is Eliza all the way--That reminds me of Sarah,Isaac,or Layton." On the way home we drove by homes and businesses that had decorated for the holidays. The lights lite up the businesses and homes with bright colors and symbols of Christmas. We especially likes the drive through Fort Madison. We love the old Victorian homes with all the ginger breading. They look so lovely with a Christmas tree sparkling in the front window and pine garlands and wreaths adorning their front porches. The river front in Fort Madison was lighted up with a huge display.The reflections in the water made it even more stunning. As we continued along the river on the way home we drove through Montrose. The Nauvoo temple glowed a brilliant white across the river. It looked like it was covered in glitter like a Christmas card as it sparked and shined. Its reflection in the river was truly beautiful.I felt extremely blessed as we drove home to get to spend such a great day with my wonderful husband.
